About WBJEE

For students planning to study engineering in West Bengal, WBJEE can open up another route apart from national-level entrance exams. The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is organised by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board and is used for admission to undergraduate courses in engineering, technology, pharmacy and architecture. B.E. and B.Tech aspirants can use their WBJEE rank while applying to participating colleges in the state.

The engineering paper brings together three familiar subjects — Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Mathematics has a higher weightage, while Physics and Chemistry have their own sections in the test. Unlike computer-based entrance exams, WBJEE is conducted using OMR sheets, so candidates mark their chosen answers on the answer sheet. The questions are objective, but students still need to keep an eye on the clock, particularly while working through the Mathematics section.

Your work does not stop when the exam is over. Once the results are announced, the rank becomes important for the admission process. Students who are eligible can participate in counselling and list the colleges and branches they would prefer. During seat allotment, several things come into play, including the rank obtained, category, eligibility, choices submitted and the seats available in a particular round.

WBJEE is conducted once a year, which makes preparation and keeping track of the application schedule important. If you are considering colleges in West Bengal, it is also useful to look at the available B.Tech branches beforehand. Knowing which colleges and courses you would actually choose can make the counselling stage much easier when the results are out.
