About NEST

NEST stands for National Entrance Screening Test. It is an entrance exam for students who want to continue their studies in the field of basic sciences. The exam is mainly known for admission to the five-year Integrated MSc programme at the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and UM-DAE CEBS, Mumbai. Both institutes offer courses with a strong focus on science, research and practical learning.

The exam covers four subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. Students get questions from these subjects and their performance is used to prepare the NEST merit list. The test is conducted in computer-based mode, so candidates need to appear at the examination centre mentioned on their admit card.

NEST can be a good option for students who enjoy studying science and are not looking only at the usual professional courses after Class 12. The Integrated MSc programme allows students to explore different areas of science during the course and gradually develop an interest in a particular subject.

After the result, candidates who meet the required conditions can take part in the admission process. Seats are offered at NISER and CEBS based on the NEST merit list and the applicable admission rules. Students interested in fields such as Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics can use this route to begin their higher studies in a research-oriented environment.
