IAT, or the IISER Aptitude Test, is conducted for students who want to pursue higher studies in science, research and related fields at the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research. For the 2026–27 academic session, IAT is the common entrance test for admission to undergraduate programmes across the seven IISERs.
The test is useful for students interested in programmes such as the five-year BS-MS dual degree, BS programmes and selected B.Tech programmes. IISER Bhopal offers B.Tech courses in Chemical Engineering, Data Science and Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Computer Science through IAT. Other programmes available through the admission process include BS-MS in Computational and Data Sciences, Economic Sciences and Economic and Statistical Sciences.
IAT is conducted as a computer-based test at centres across India. The paper has questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, so candidates should be comfortable with the science subjects included in the examination. The IAT score is used to prepare the rank list based on the test which is the base for the IISER admission process and the subsequent allotment of seats.
