About GUJCET

The Gujarat Common Entrance Test, better known as GUJCET, is the main state-level exam that students in Gujarat take after Class 12 Science if they want to get into engineering or pharmacy courses. It is organised every year by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board and opens doors to government, grant-in-aid and private colleges across the state for B.E., B.Tech, B.Pharm and diploma pharmacy programmes.

The test is offline, pen-and-paper style with OMR sheets, and students can choose to write it in Gujarati, English or Hindi. It usually lasts three hours and has 120 multiple-choice questions—forty each from Physics and Chemistry in a combined paper, plus another forty from either Mathematics for engineering aspirants or Biology for those aiming at pharmacy. Each correct answer gives one mark while a wrong one costs a quarter mark. The questions stay close to the Class 12 GSEB syllabus, which follows the NCERT pattern, so students who have prepared well for their board exams find the content familiar.

To appear, a candidate needs to be an Indian citizen and a resident of Gujarat, and must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with the right subject combination. Once the results come out, seats are allotted through the Admission Committee for Professional Courses counselling process, where the final merit list generally gives equal weight to the board marks and the GUJCET score.

For the 2026 cycle the exam was held on 29 March, results followed in early May, and counselling rounds have been taking place through the summer. It remains the primary route for most state-quota seats in Gujarat’s engineering and pharmacy colleges, offering a more syllabus-aligned and locally accessible path than purely national-level tests.
