For students looking at engineering colleges in Karnataka, COMEDK UGET is one of the exams that often comes up during the admission process. It is conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka and is mainly used for admission to B.E. and B.Tech courses in participating colleges. Students from outside Karnataka can also apply, provided they fulfil the required conditions.
The question paper is based on Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. You get 60 questions from each subject, so there are 180 questions altogether. The test is held on a computer and the paper is available in English. There is also no negative marking, which is helpful when you are unsure about a few questions and want to make an attempt rather than leave them blank.
Your performance in the exam determines your rank, and that rank becomes important when counselling begins. During counselling, you can select the colleges and courses you are interested in. The college and branch you finally get will depend on your rank, the choices you fill in and how many seats are available.
COMEDK can be a useful option for students who want to keep more engineering colleges in Karnataka on their list. Before applying, it is a good idea to check the participating colleges, available branches and previous admission trends so you have a clearer idea of what to expect.
