About College of Veterinary Science

This college is specifically meant for students who are ready for the physically demanding, deeply scientific reality of treating animals and supporting India's livestock economy. It serves as the primary training ground for veterinary professionals in the northeastern region. Your child will get direct clinical experience at the busy teaching veterinary hospital on the Guwahati campus. The focus remains strictly practical, preparing graduates for government veterinary officer roles, wildlife rehabilitation, or clinical practice.

Admissions Overview

Entrance Screening: Applicants must secure a valid score in the NEET-UG examination or the state-level agricultural entrance test administered by Assam Agricultural University.
State Quota Verification: Candidates submit domicile certificates, caste category proofs, and academic marksheets to verify eligibility under the Assam state quota or North Eastern Council seats.
Fitness Examination: Because the curriculum involves handling heavy livestock, working in dairies, and dealing with unpredictable animals, candidates must clear a physical fitness exam conducted by the university's medical officer.
Counseling and Seat Allocation: Based on the final merit list and VCI guidelines, candidates choose their specialization or seat category during offline counseling at the Khanapara campus, followed by registration and lab coat deposit fees.

Life on Campus

Facility	Description
Hostels	Separate residence halls for undergraduate boys and girls are situated near the clinical complex, which is necessary because students frequently handle night emergency duties at the animal hospital.
Transport	The college operates its own buses to ferry students from the residential quarters to the instructional poultry farm and the dairy farm located on the periphery of the city.
Computer Center / Wi-Fi Campus	A centralized bioinformatics lab offers internet connectivity and access to specialized veterinary databases, helping students track epidemiology data and livestock genetic maps.
Cafeteria / Canteen	The student canteen serves freshly prepared regional Assamese meals, sourcing milk and dairy products directly from the college's own cattle farms on campus.
Sports / Playground	A large grass field and indoor facility allow students to play football and badminton, offering a much-needed break from intensive diagnostic lab work and surgical rotations.

Worth knowing: Animal handling and clinical postings start early in the curriculum, meaning students must be comfortable with long hours in muddy, noisy farm environments. If your child is sensitive to strong smells or hesitant about physical labor with large livestock, this rigorous professional track will be a difficult fit.
