Ranveer Singh Commits to Educating 1,000 Girls Through Seva Sankalp Abhiyan

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has announced a personal commitment to support the education of 1,000 girls as part of the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. He shared the pledge while visiting Mumbai’s iconic Lalbaugcha Raja pandal on September 17, the day that marked both Ganesh Chaturthi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.

Dressed in a white kurta-pyjama, Ranveer sought Lord Ganesha’s blessings and spoke about the happiness his family had experienced over the past year. He then turned to the pledge. “On the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi and on the occasion of the birth anniversary of our respected Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, I pledge to join the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan and support the education of 1,000 daughters. I hope that Bappa will be pleased with this initiative and that his blessings will always remain upon us,” he said.

The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is a month-long campaign that began on September 17 and runs until October 17. It encourages citizens and public figures to take concrete steps in service, ranging from community work to education and infrastructure support. Ranveer is one of several film personalities who have come forward. Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have pledged to refurbish 20 schools, aiming to create better learning spaces for children.

For many families, especially those with limited means, consistent support for a girl’s schooling can make a real difference. It helps cover fees, books, uniforms or other essentials that often force students, particularly girls, to drop out. Teachers in government and low-fee private schools frequently note that such targeted help improves attendance and retention. Parents watching these announcements may feel encouraged that high-profile voices are drawing attention to the need for sustained investment in girls’ education.

Ranveer has long been associated with Lalbaugcha Raja and makes it a point to visit during the festival. This year’s trip carried added personal meaning as he and his wife Deepika Padukone prepare for the arrival of their second child. The education pledge adds a public dimension to a private moment of gratitude.

While the exact details of how the support will be delivered, whether through scholarships, school partnerships or other channels, are yet to be fully outlined, the scale of the commitment is clear. One thousand girls stand to benefit from focused assistance that could keep them in classrooms longer. "Other celebrities also pitched in, reinforcing the idea that education is a common priority even outside of government programs."

In classrooms and homes across the country, stories like this serve as quiet reminders that individual pledges, when followed through, can open doors that might otherwise stay closed.
