Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology has come out with a strong incentive for its student athletes. Students of KIIT who win medals at the 2028 Olympics will receive a Rs 1 crore cash award along with a 3-BHK flat.

Sprinter and Arjuna Awardee Dutee Chand reacted positively to the announcement. She said she felt proud hearing the news. According to her, KIIT has already produced 24 Olympians who have taken part in the Olympics, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games.

“Today, Sir has made a very big announcement. Students of KIIT who perform well and win medals at the 2028 Olympics will receive a Rs 1 crore cash award along with a 3-BHK flat,” she said. Chand pointed out that many athletes come from poor families. Their families often depend on them, and the high cost of training, nutrition and travel can hold them back.

She urged young athletes to work hard, focus on proper nutrition and aim for these rewards. The announcement builds on KIIT’s existing support for sports. The institute has been backing student athletes with facilities, training and earlier cash rewards for Asian Games and Commonwealth Games performances.

For students and parents looking at careers that mix academics with competitive sports, this kind of reward changes the calculation. A sizeable cash prize and housing support can ease financial pressure after years of training. Teachers and coaches working with school and college athletes may also see it as a sign that excellence at the top level can bring lasting rewards beyond medals. KIIT continues to position itself as an institution where sports are taken seriously while students complete their degrees. There is still time left in the 2028 Olympic cycle, providing a tangible goal for current and future students to work toward.
