SSC CGL Recruitment 2026 Registration Begins for Over 12,000 Vacancies

The Staff Selection Commission has officially started the SSC CGL Recruitment 2026 process, opening applications for more than 12,000 vacancies across various ministries and departments of the central government.

For lakhs of government job aspirants, SSC CGL is honestly one of the biggest recruitment exams of the year. The exam gives graduates a chance to enter departments like Income Tax, CBI, Customs, Audit, Central Secretariat, and several other government offices.

According to the official notification, Tier 1 examinations will be conducted in computer-based mode between August and September 2026, while Tier 2 exams are expected in December.

The SSC CGL exam recruits candidates for several Group B and Group C posts across central government departments.

Many candidates specifically target posts like Assistant Section Officer, Income Tax Inspector, and Assistant Audit Officer because of salary, promotion opportunities, and work profile.

Eligibility Criteria for SSC CGL 2026

Candidates applying for SSC CGL must have completed graduation from a recognised university. Some specialised posts may require subjects like Statistics or Commerce.

The application fee for General, OBC, and EWS candidates is ₹100, while women, SC, ST, PwBD, and ex-servicemen candidates are exempted from paying the fee.

Big Changes Introduced in SSC CGL 2026

SSC has introduced sectional timing in Tier 1 and Tier 2 examinations. That means candidates will get limited time separately for each section instead of overall flexible timing.

Reports also mention that candidates will now need to upload a live photograph during the application process instead of using older uploaded photos.
