CUET UG 2026 NTA 5 Major Updates Students Must Know

CUET UG 2026: NTA Announces 5 Major Changes for Upcoming Exam Cycle
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially released the guidelines for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) UG 2026. As the registration window for the 2026-27 session closes, students must be aware of five significant updates that will impact their exam strategy and admission process.
1. Mandatory APAAR ID Integration
The most critical update for 2026 is the inclusion of the APAAR ID (Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry) in the application form. Under the "One Nation, One Student ID" initiative, students are highly encouraged to link their IDs to ensure seamless credit transfer during the counseling and university admission stages.
2. Reduction in Subject Selection Limit
NTA has revised the subject selection rules. Unlike previous years where students could choose more, candidates for CUET UG 2026 are now limited to a maximum of 5 subjects. This includes languages, domain-specific subjects, and the General Test.
| Update Category | Change Introduced |
|---|---|
| Subject Limit | Reduced from 6 to a maximum of 5 subjects. |
| Registration Feature | Live image capture during form filling is now mandatory. |
| Exam Duration | Standardized 60 minutes for all domain subjects. |
3. Live Image Capture Feature
To eliminate proxy candidates and identity fraud, NTA has introduced a "Live Image Capture" feature during the registration process. Students must have a working camera to click a real-time photo while submitting their application, in addition to uploading scanned copies.
4. Exclusive CBT Mode and Revised Pattern
CUET UG 2026 will be conducted exclusively in Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode between May 11 and May 31, 2026. The marking scheme remains +5 for correct answers and -1 for incorrect responses. There is no change in the 13 medium languages offered.
5. Streamlined Domain Subjects
The list of available domain subjects has been streamlined to 37. NTA has removed several low-enrolment subjects to make the examination process more efficient. Students are advised to check the updated Appendix-II in the Information Bulletin for the final list.
In summary, students must prioritize generating their APAAR ID and carefully selecting their 5 subjects to avoid last-minute rejections. Stay tuned to the official website cuet.nta.nic.in for admit card and city intimation updates in early May.
