GATE 2027 Registration Begins August 14, Check Application Fee and Eligibility

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2027 registration process will begin on August 14, 2026. IIT Madras is the organising institute for GATE 2027, and the online application will be available through the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). Candidates can submit their applications without a late fee until September 21, while the extended registration window will remain open until September 30 with an additional fee.

Candidates can apply through the official GATE 2027 website. The examination will be conducted across 30 test papers. Candidates can choose either one paper or up to two papers from the permitted two-paper combinations. The GATE 2027 syllabus has also been revised, and Robotics and Automation has been introduced as a new test paper.

For eligibility, candidates who are currently studying in the third year or higher of an eligible undergraduate degree programme can appear for GATE 2027. Candidates who have already completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities are also eligible, subject to the prescribed conditions. There is no age limit for appearing in GATE 2027.

Eligibility Requirement
B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm. Currently in the 3rd year or higher, or already completed.
B.Arch. Currently in the 3rd year or higher, or already completed.
B.Sc./B.A./B.Com./BCA Three-year programme, currently in the 3rd year or already completed.
M.Sc./M.A./MCA Currently in the 1st year or higher, or already completed.
B.Sc. Agriculture/Horticulture/Forestry Four-year programme, currently in the 3rd or 4th year, or already completed.

The GATE 2027 application fee for a single test paper is ₹1,000 for female, SC, ST and PwD candidates during the regular registration period. For all other candidates, including foreign nationals, the fee is ₹2,000. During the extended period, the respective fees will increase to ₹1,500 and ₹2,500. Candidates opting for two papers have to pay twice the applicable fee.

Before registration, candidates should keep the required documents ready and ensure that their details are accurate. Indian nationals are required to use a verified DigiLocker account for GATE 2027 registration. Candidates should also review the updated syllabus and permitted two-paper combinations before selecting their test paper.

A valid GATE score can be used for admission to various master's and doctoral programmes and may also provide eligibility for financial assistance in participating institutions. Some Public Sector Undertakings also use GATE scores for recruitment, although qualifying in GATE does not by itself guarantee admission, financial assistance or a PSU job.
