Can I do an internship while studying in college?

Hey guys,
I’m in college right now and thinking about trying an internship while still studying. Not sure if that’s even realistic though — like, can you actually handle both without completely burning out? Do most colleges let you intern during the semester, or is summer break the smarter option? And does the internship have to match your major, or can it be something totally different? Also wondering if companies even take first-year students, or if they mostly want people in second or third year.

If anyone’s currently juggling an internship + classes, how are you managing it? Would really appreciate any tips.
