Does Discrimination Based on Religion and Caste Exist in Colleges? (A Ground Reality)

I am a college graduate, and since my college days, I have been helping new students with the admission process. From normal counseling and guidance to showing them the right path, everything seemed very smooth. But recently, during the admission process, I observed certain things that shook me to the core.

Today, I am sharing a real experience with you, which is not based on rumors but on my own direct observation.

Case 1: The 2023-2024 BA LLB Admission Incident

Admissions for the 2023-24 session were ongoing. I received a call from a local Muslim student who wanted to take admission in BA LLB. I knew the admissions were open, so I confidently told him that his seat would be confirmed.

However, the student later told me that the college had denied him, stating that "admissions are full." I doubted this, so I directly called the college counselor to whom I usually referred students.

The Conversation:

- Me: "Sir, two students need admission in BA LLB. Can it be done?"

- Counselor: "Yes, absolutely."

- Me: "But sir, the students are saying that they were denied by the college?"

- Counselor: "Where are the students from?"

- Me: "They are local, within a 15 KM radius."

- Counselor: "Oh, I am the one who denied them. These people ruin the college atmosphere, which is why we have stopped taking them in the 5-year course. Orders from above. Tell them no."

At that time, I took it normally. I thought maybe local students actually do get into fights more often, and the management just wants to maintain a peaceful atmosphere. I relayed the rejection to the student. Frustrated, the student said, "Alright, I'll have to go to the college and talk in person." Thinking about it today, I realize that such situations breed hatred against the system inside a student. A student who just wanted to study was stopped without any fault of his own.

Case 2: The 2026 Lead Generation Shock

In the present year (2026), I ran Instagram ads for college admissions. Whatever leads I got, I forwarded them to the college. Suddenly, I received a call from the management.

The Conversation:

- Sir: "Hey man, why are you sending all Muslim leads? Send a mix. If there are 2 Muslims, there should be 4 Hindus."

- Me (Shocked): "Sir, I am just running ads. Whoever wants to study is messaging me, and I am simply forwarding you the details."

- Sir: "No, pay a little attention. Keep it balanced. Orders from above."

After this call, I lost my mind. I am running an ad where everyone is equal, so how can I filter people based on religion? Do I now have to write in my ads that people of a certain religion shouldn't message me?

The Inside Truth: College Policy or Discrimination?

To clear my doubts, I went to the college and talked to a senior Ma'am who was part of the counseling management. What she told me exposed a dark reality of the education sector.

She confirmed that the college has fixed a percentage ratio for Hindu-Muslim students. Their logic was again the same: "local kids cause trouble."

But my question is, if a local student genuinely wants to study and cannot afford expensive colleges outside the city, where will they go?

I asked her:

"Ma'am, there are no such restrictions on local Hindu students? As for fighting, if a student misbehaves, you can make strict rules, get agreements signed, and terminate their admission. But where is the justice in keeping an entire community away from education? With this mentality, how will any student progress?"

Ma'am only had one answer: "Nothing is in our hands. Whatever orders come from above, we have to follow."

Conclusion: Education or Agenda?

This story is about a reputed college in Ghaziabad, but the fear is that this trend might be becoming common in other institutions as well.

My Takeaway:

- If you turn colleges into Temples, only Hindus will go there.

- If you turn them into Mosques, only Muslims will go.

- Let a place of study remain strictly a place of study. Do not make it a part of a political or religious agenda.

In all this, the fault doesn't lie with the individual teachers or counselors who are just following orders. The real problem is the narrow-mindedness of the Top Management, who hold high positions but have very petty thinking. Strict action must be taken against such discriminatory practices in the education system. Everyone has an equal right to education, regardless of their religion or background.

This is a real-life incident experienced by Subham.
